Who We Are

The Emergency Management Association of Ohio is the premier statewide organization dedicated to enhancing emergency management planning and preparedness activities at the local, state, and federal levels.

Membership is composed of local government emergency management and emergency response agencies, representatives of industrial, commercial, educational, military, private and nonprofit and volunteer organization; and professionals in other fields who perform emergency management functions.

EMAO’s Executive Committee, consisting of the President, Vice-president, Past President, Secretary, Treasurer and four elected members At Large oversee the day to day activities of the Association.

Active membership includes representatives of local emergency management agency that pay annual dues in the amount of $150.00.

Professional Membership includes entities such as government agencies, university, corporations, and vendors which wish to be listed on the roster as members and pay annual dues of $300.00.

Associate Membership includes individuals that wish to hold membership and are sponsored by either an Active Member or a Professional Member and annual dues of $25.00.

EMAO Provides:

· A more effective liaison between local emergency management agencies and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.

· Information from local emergency management agency concerning their common experience, and in order to improve the professional stature of all such agencies, to disseminate such information to its members and to the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.

· Local emergency management agencies with an instrument for concerted expression of viewpoint to the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, and facilitates the communication between the Ohio Emergency Management Agency and local emergency management agencies.

· A medium for affecting liaison between industrial, commercial, service and educational organizations and local emergency management agencies.

· Future development of State Certification and Continuing Education Programs.

Training and Education

EMAO’s Annual Conference is held in September of each year. We additionally hold seminars and workshops on issues related to emergency management and emergency services. Potential for CEU credits to be offered.

EMAO’s a web site provides information and communications with its members on current issue facing emergency preparedness.

Advocacy and Legislative

The EMAO monitors state and federal legislation and other issues affecting emergency management. Updates are communicated to the membership and acted upon by the Association. We are actively represented on state level commissions, committees and task forces.
