Property Tax Update

As you may recall the Ohio House voted to override a single item from the budget bill (House Bill 96) during a special session on July 21, 2025. Today, the Ohio Senate voted to override the issue and were successful with a vote of 21-11.  The following language has become law:

Property Tax Levy Restrictions (House Bill 96 Veto Override #1)

Eliminates the authority for political subdivisions to levy replacement property tax levies and the authority for school districts to levy fixed-sum emergency, substitute emergency levies, and combined school district income tax and fixed-sum property tax levies. 

The Ohio House may bring up additional items to override in the coming weeks.
